How we handle your information

Last Updated: February 12, 2026

We're not lawyers, and this isn't written like a legal document. Here's how KiliPeak handles your data—straightforward and honest.

What Information We Collect

When you contact us or book a climb, we collect:

  • Name — so we know who we're talking to
  • Email address — to respond to your inquiries and send trip information
  • Phone number — for direct communication about your climb
  • Any other details you provide — climbing experience, dietary restrictions, medical conditions relevant to your trek, travel dates, preferences

We collect this through:

  • Our contact form on this website
  • Email correspondence
  • WhatsApp messages
  • Phone calls

How We Use Your Information

Your data serves one purpose: helping you climb Kilimanjaro safely and successfully. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Respond to your inquiries — answer questions about routes, pricing, availability
  • Send you trip information — itineraries, packing lists, pre-climb briefings, logistics
  • Coordinate your climb — communicate with guides, arrange permits, organize logistics
  • Follow up after your trek — request feedback, share photos, answer post-climb questions

That's it. We don't use your information for anything else.

Google Analytics

Like most websites, we use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how people use our site. This tracks:

  • Pages you visit
  • How long you stay
  • How you found us (search, referral, direct)
  • General location (city/country level, not your exact address)
  • Device type (mobile, desktop)

This data is anonymized and helps us improve the website—figure out which pages are useful, which are confusing, and where people get stuck.

Google Analytics uses cookies (small text files stored in your browser). You can block these with browser extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger if you prefer.

Cookies

We use minimal cookies:

  • Google Analytics cookies — track site usage (see above)
  • Essential cookies — make the site function properly (form submissions, session data)

We don't use tracking cookies for ads or marketing. No third-party ad networks, no retargeting.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in settings. Blocking essential cookies might break some site features (like the contact form), but analytics cookies are optional.

We Don't Sell Your Data

Never. We're a small climbing operation, not a data broker. Your information stays with us. We don't sell it, rent it, trade it, or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.

The only time we share your information:

  • With our guides and crew — they need your name, dietary needs, medical info to keep you safe on the mountain
  • With Tanzanian authorities — national park permits require your name and passport details (legal requirement)
  • If legally required — court order, government request, etc. (hasn't happened yet)

How We Protect Your Information

We take reasonable precautions to protect your data:

  • Email encryption — our email provider (Gmail) uses TLS encryption in transit
  • Limited access — only Ahmed (founder) and essential staff access client information
  • Secure storage — client data stored in password-protected systems

That said, no system is 100% secure. Email and internet communication always carry some risk. We do our best, but we can't guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We keep your information as long as it's useful:

  • If you book a climb: We keep your details indefinitely (or until you ask us to delete them). This lets us follow up, answer future questions, and help if you want to climb again.
  • If you inquire but don't book: We keep your email for up to 2 years in case you change your mind. After that, we delete it unless you've stayed in contact.
  • Analytics data: Google Analytics retains data for 14 months, then deletes it automatically.

Want your data deleted? Email us at kilipeak.info@gmail.com and we'll remove it within 30 days.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — ask what information we have about you
  • Correct your data — update incorrect or outdated information
  • Delete your data — request we remove your information from our systems
  • Opt out of emails — unsubscribe from our mailing list (if you're on it)

To exercise these rights, email kilipeak.info@gmail.com. We'll respond within 30 days.

Third-Party Links

Our website may link to external sites (gear recommendations, weather resources, etc.). We're not responsible for their privacy practices. If you click a link and leave our site, you're subject to that site's privacy policy—not ours.

Children's Privacy

Kilimanjaro climbs require participants to be at least 10 years old (national park rules). We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. If you're booking for a minor, we assume you have authority to provide their information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy occasionally—if we change how we handle data, add new tools, or update practices. When we do, we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

Major changes (like sharing data with new third parties) will be announced via email to past and current clients.
